EXO, agence d'architectes

EXO is an French architectural agency. In order to restructure its whole organisation, EXO called on Mumure. We gave EXO advice about marketing strategy in order to rethink its image as much as its global communication.

Concept

We took up the creation of this visual identity with the look of an architect.

The founding principles of this visual identity lie in the design of volumes through light and notions of perspective, of materials and of fundamental elements. We studied paper as building materials: the artistic directors became architects and graphic designers became project managers.

Visual Identity

Our ambition was to give a certain feeling of volume to 2D supports.

The design of the logo and the visual identity were first imagined through a system which enabled us to play with the graphic sphere as a singular architectural element. This notion of volume lies on principles of perspective which are created by convergence lines. The choice of black and white highlights the graphic power of the material, the volume and its contrasts. The elements are cut through shapes so it reinforces the effect of depth: they bring the necessary discontinuity and become a constituent part of the visual identity.

We treat each medium differently, rather than just replicating the same design in different forms.

Every medium holds its own use principles and methods of circulation. For each one of them we develop and carry out specific creative research. For EXO, we produced essential material such as business cards, headed letters, compliments slips, a portfolio, greeting cards and notebooks.

Business cards

As simple means of information in the past, business cards are now a real tool of communication.

For each one of our projects we pay particular attention to the design of business cards. Exo was not the exception to the rule. The business card, as a minimalist object, must incorporate the whole visual identity of the architectural agency and so reflect the image of the company at a glance. We produced a personalised card for each of its three associates. Using the the same shape cut from paper, the backs of each card was personalised and the thin embossed lines were asserted by a chosen enamel.

Stationery

The materials that are found in stationary shops live as one; this is why they must be conceived in harmony.

Following the idea of a contrast between the front and back sides of a paper, we used the interplay produced by the two sides on shapes cut from paper: one side for information, with a more sober and elegant graphic design, and another which uses the power and efficiency of the pattern. From business cards to headed letters, compliment slips to envelops, all ranges follow this principle.

Others

Every profession has its specific needs and supports. When it came to the architects, for instance, we produced hard hats, tubes, notebooks and portfolios.

Digital

The website, as mirroring Exo, was created in harmony with the graphic and identity codes of the Exo charter. Power and minimalism were the key words of our artistic demand.
